Woodie's - Significant Cost Savings & Ongoing Support
Woodie’s is a 100% Irish owned chain of DIY outlets, and a subsidiary of the Grafton Group plc. Woodie’s are committed to minimising their environmental impact and with 35 stores in Ireland, sought external expertise to help establish control of energy usage and deliver deep, sustained energy and carbon savings.
Client brief
The company has DIY retail outlets in the UK, Ireland, and Europe. With a complex set-up and a large portfolio of buildings, business looked to take a proactive approach in delivering process improvements, cost reductions and compliance with UK carbon legislation. International building materials company commissioned energy consultants as its new energy services partner in 2018.
Challenge
As a result of the company’s continued growth, it was becoming increasingly challenging to manage energy consumption across the estate and whilst there was already internal commitment to improve, a plan needed to be developed to sustain long term energy and carbon savings.
Results
Over a two-week period, our consultants undertook surveys of all 35 stores, with each store being provided with an individual report following analysis from our Data Analysts and Engineering Specialists. Following this initial body of work, Energy & Technical Services have supported Woodie’s with the roll-out of LED lighting, remote HVAC controls, and live energy monitoring across all of their stores. Energy & Technical Services continue to use the live energy monitoring data to drive savings with Store Managers, Woodie’s Senior Management team and their Technical Department.
